Soffit & Fascia Facts
Improper Gutter Installation, and failure to keep the Gutters clean will lead to poor water flow in the Gutters and will cause the Gutters to overflow.
If left unchecked, clogged gutters can cause wood rot on your home's fascia boards, soffits and eaves soffits and eaves.
Normally the Gutters are attached to the fascia with screws or spikes and as the fascia boards deteriorate due to the overflowing of the gutters or the improper installation of the Gutters where the rail water gets behind the gutter rather than going into the gutter.
The fascia boards are attached by nailing or screwing them to the roof rafter tails, so as the water starts to rot the fascia boards the roof rafter ends are also damaged causing the fascia board nails or screws to pull out which in turn causes the gutter to pull away from the fascia boards when it rains heavy or there is a heavy snow.
More bad news, by the water not being contained by the gutters will cause water to infiltrate into the soffit areas of the overhang and will cause serious rot issues.
